Our Senior Staff averages in excess of 25 years of experience, and have worked for some of the largest Construction Service Providers in the country. We have honed our leadership and construction skills, and have developed our team with a strong background in this area.

Aash Desai

Principal, Founder

Aash founded Helios Construction Services in 2008 with the vision to transform the inefficient construction process. Aash has over 15 years of experience in the Real Estate and Construction industry, having worked as a Project Manager and Preconstruction Manager for a Large Global Construction Management Firm, as well as the Vice President of Development for a National Real Estate Development firm.

Aash actively manages the overall business strategy and project direction for Helios. His experience with a variety of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, private developers, start-up businesses and institutions allows him to serve as both a construction manager, as well as adviser for our Clients.  

Aash earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction at Bradley University as well as an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

In addition, Aash has served as a Mentor and on the Associate Board of Directors for the ACE Mentoring Program of Illinois, which promotes careers in architecture, construction and engineering to inner-city high school students, where he was honored with its inaugural Educational Leader award. Aash’s involvement in the local community coupled with his professional achievements has been recognized by Engineering News Record’s Top 20 Professionals Under 40.

Mark Akers

Project Executive

Mark is a Project Executive with Helios Construction providing management and leadership for multiple project types from preconstruction through project completion. Since 1994, Mark has been meeting the needs of clients in the Midwest specializing in a variety of construction types including healthcare, office interiors, industrial, and laboratory projects. With over $750M in completed projects, Mark has developed the skills and experience in providing both preconstruction and construction management services to successfully partner with his clients and project teams.

Mark is known for bringing an entire project team together, and aligning everyone with the client’s needs in mind. Prior to joining Helios, Mark worked in operations and business development with a large general contractor in the Chicagoland area. Mark has received a Certified Healthcare Constructor Certificate from American Society for Healthcare Engineers, OSHA 30 Hour Certification, and AGC BIM Certification. He holds a BS in Building Construction Management from Purdue University and has previously served on the ACE Mentor Program board and Purdue University Building Construction Management Technology Construction Advisory Council.

Jennifer Kotz

Project Executive

Jenny, a Project Executive, is responsible for the successful delivery of some of Helios’ most challenging projects. She specializes in high-level conceptual budgeting, design build, and project development and leads team members to facilitate concepts. One of Jenny’s greatest strengths is recognizing and cultivating the potential in others. At Helios, she mentors team members to create the next generation of leaders by providing direction and guidance on current projects.

With over fifteen years of experience in all facets of the construction industry, Jenny brings a variety of project experience to her clients. As a result, she has a strong history of repeat client relationships.

Jenny has a Bachelors of Science in Construction from Texas A&M University.  Prior to joining Helios, Jenny has held Project Manager and Office Engineer positions at construction firms in Texas and the Chicagoland area.

Timothy Stone


With nearly 10 years of experience in the construction accounting industry, Tim is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of financial performance. With experience in budgeting, forecasting, coordinating audits, and mergers and acquisitions, Tim provides the necessary analytical data to make informed business decisions that facilitate growth and drive bottom-line results. Prior to joining Helios, Tim served as Controller of an electrical subcontracting firm in the Chicagoland area.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management (Finance-Specialization) from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale.

Tom Cichy

General Superintendent

Since joining the organization in 2010, Tom has been instrumental in taking on some our most complex projects, while helping to convert many first-time clients into repeat clients. As a General Superintendent, Tom is involved in every project, serving as a mentor and a resource to all of our Superintendents and project team members. Tom’s extensive background in construction enables him to provide outstanding direction to subcontractors by coordinating plans, specifications and schedules in order to ensure quality and on-time completion of work. 

Prior to Helios, Tom had been an integral part of one the largest construction companies in Chicago where he served as a carpenter apprentice, journeyman, carpenter foreman and superintendent. Throughout his thirty-five year career in the construction industry, Tom has overseen and consistently delivered several projects of different sizes, scopes and budgets.

Jacqueline Scala

Business Development Manager

Jacqueline brings a diverse skillset and vital support to our project teams during all phases of our projects. Her primary role of procuring business and nurturing client relationships is supplemented by her vast knowledge of architectural design and construction management.

Jacqueline has over 8 years of portfolio work in residential and corporate interiors as an interior designer, and was the program lead on several multi-site project accounts as a project manager at a Fortune 500 company. By providing motivational leadership and establishing creative partnerships, Jacqueline enhances the versatility of our firm.

Jacqueline earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture from Columbia College Chicago.

Caitie Galley

Senior Project Manager

As a LEED® Green Associate accredited professional, Caitie is involved in all aspects of project management including submittals, scheduling, cost control and closeout processes.

Prior to joining Helios, Caitie earned her Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She began her career in construction as a Project Engineer for infrastructure and environmentally focused construction projects. She also held a position as a construction consultant and advised on hospitality, manufacturing, retail and commercial projects.

Peter Lutz

Senior Project Manager

Peter, a LEED® Green Associate Accredited Professional, is involved in all aspects of project management including pre construction, value engineering, big award, submittals, cost control and closeout procedures. manages and coordinates submittal, cost control, scheduling, reporting and document control activities.

In addition to his role as Project Manager, Peter serves as a Commissioned Officer in the Illinois National Guard. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Prior to joining Helios, Peter served as a Project Engineer and Assistant Project Manager for several multi-million dollar tenant interior buildouts on the North side of Chicago.

Scott Heguy

Project Manager

Scott, a LEED® Accredited Professional, assists in project management and construction supervision efforts, manages and coordinates submittal, cost control, scheduling, reporting and document control activities. His thoroughness and attention to detail ensures that all aspects of a job are completed with the highest quality.

Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering from Purdue University and began his career as a quality control manager for a general contractor working on military bases around the country. Prior to Helios, Scott was an assistant project manager at a construction firm that operated on both a national and local scale.

Kenya Tapia

Project Manager

Kenya is involved in all aspects of project management, including scheduling, submittals, cost control, and site supervision efforts. With the ability to quickly adapt to ever-changing environments, Kenya ensures that each project runs smoothly and is completed with the utmost level of detail.

Kenya holds a degree from DePaul University in Business Administration as well as International Business and French. Prior to joining the team, Kenya worked as a Project Coordinator for a small General Contractor specializing in residential restoration and commercial cleaning services.

Ashley Huie

Project Manager

Ashley is responsible for pre construction budgeting and scheduling. She also assists with submittals, cost control, documentation, and project management.

Ashley graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture.  Prior to Helios, Ashley worked at Holly Hunt where she managed the custom design team.

Morgan Richard

Preconstruction Manager

As a Preconstruction Manager at Helios Construction Services, Morgan collaborates with our Project Management teams during the beginning stages of a project to create accurate proposals.  Prior to joining the Helios team, she was an Assistant Preconstruction Manager and was responsible for composing construction estimates, schedules and proposals for warehouses, office tenant improvements, historic renovations and many others.

Zach Bencur

Project Engineer

Zach Bencur graduated from Purdue University Northwest with a degree in Construction Management & Engineering Technologies. Prior to Helios, Zach worked as a carpenter for a custom home builder and as a Project Engineer for a general contractor.

At Helios, Zach works with the project team to ensure accurate budgeting and scheduling, as well as managing submittals and document control.

Mike Tierney

Project Engineer

Mike joined the Helios team in January 2019 after graduating from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville with a BS in Construction Management. During Mike's education, he was able to complete his AIC certification and complete successful internships with a small engineering firm and Pepper Construction. 

At Helios, Mike works with project teams to ensure effective bidding, scheduling, and project management. He is proficient with Document and submittal management.

Ryan Lynch

Project Engineer

Ryan completed a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management from Bradley University. During his time at Bradley, he interned for a general contractor in Peoria. Prior to attending Bradley, Ryan was in Sales for four years.

At Helios, Ryan assists our preconstruction team with bid efforts and works with the project team on project management.

Laura Lazzara

Office Manager

Laura handles all office operations including accounting, human resources, contract management and communications. She continuously contributes to the company standards of excellence. With her patience and diligence, she promotes a positive work environment.

As one of Helios’ first employees, Laura has been an integral part in establishing a strong foundation for the company’s ongoing growth and success. Laura’s impressive attention to detail and knowledge of the industry enables Helios Construction Services to operate efficiently and gracefully.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri. Prior to joining Helios, Laura worked for several large real estate companies in Chicago in marketing, operations and administrative roles.

Kelly Zischerk

Chelsea Hauser

Project Coordinator

Chelsea completes a variety of assignments, including assistance with marketing and bid efforts, efficient preparation of monthly billings, and creation and maintenance of compliant contract documents. Chelsea's adaptability allows her to move between projects with ease, and her process-oriented nature allows her to identify and problem-solve inefficiencies in standard operating procedures.

Chelsea earned a dual Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Anthropology and Classical Humanities from Miami University (OH), and completed Graduate studies at University of Cincinnati. Prior to Helios, she worked as a practice administrator for Harris Immigration Law in Chicago.

Kristin Shirley

Project Coordinator

Kristin joined Helios Construction Services in 2019 with several years of experience in Interior Design. As a Project Coordinator, her eye for detail is well utilized as she works on contract compliance, submittals, scoping, and material acquisition.

Ed Greb


Ed began his career in the construction industry nearly twenty years ago when he served as a carpenter foreman at a nationally ranked commercial construction company. His experience includes a wide variety of construction trades.

In his superintendent role at Helios, Ed is responsible for scheduling subcontractors and ensuring that work is done correctly and efficiently.

Eric Rowe


Eric has over 15 years experience working as a laborer, carpenter, foreman and a superintendent on various sized jobs for subcontractors. His experience in the field gives him a first-hand understanding of the mechanics, requirements and demands to complete a project on-time and under-budget. In addition, Eric's 17 years of service in the United States Army has cultivated his leadership skills and his attention to detail. 

John Barkauskas


John joined Helios in 2017 with over 23 years of experience in the construction industry working as an apprentice carpenter, journeyman, and Foreman. Prior to joining Helios, John worked as a General Foreman at a nationally recognized General Contractor.

As a Superintendent, John is responsible for the onsite supervision and coordination of all job site activity. His ability to prioritize and execute tasks ensures minimal production delays.

Joe Koleczek

Senior Superintendent

Joe joins Helios with 18 years of construction experience. Prior to joining us, he worked in a variety of positions, including carpenter, foreman, and superintendent, giving Joe a well-rounded view of the construction field. Joe is OSHA-30 certified and holds a U.S. Army Corp of Engineers construction quality management certificate.

Joe's day-to-day responsibilities include supervision on job sites to ensure safe and efficient work is completed. His experience in the field allows him to create accurate schedules for subcontractor work to guarantee timely completion of a job.

Martin Burke

Facilities Manager

Marty joined Helios in 2016 to help establish our service division. He is responsible for managing many construction and maintenance projects, ensuring that our clients needs are met for projects large and small, as well as providing maintenance services to ensure they look as good down the road as the day they are completed.

With over twenty five years of experience in the construction, operations, and maintenance industries, Marty has overseen various projects from $5 fan belt replacements to multi-million dollar masonry renovations.

Prior to joining Helios, Marty served as the Chief Engineer in the Operations Department of Chicago Public Schools.


During his time at Shields, Marty improved the overall condition of the school and the school’s infrastructure. Marty left Shields in better condition than when he first arrived. He did this for our students, staff and community.

Phil Patti

Senior Superintendent

Phil comes to Helios with over 30 years in the construction industry. He has performed a variety of construction roles, starting as a carpenter and now working as a superintendent. Phil has a strong background in commercial construction and mechanical systems, including hospitals, banks, schools, retail, and office projects.


At Helios, Phil is skilled at project scheduling and meeting deadlines within a budget. He is able to quickly develop strong professional relationships with owners and construction team members.

David Melchiorre


At Helios, David is responsible for providing direction to the subcontractors ensuring that they each complete their work in an efficient and precise manner.

Since earning an Industrial Technology degree from Illinois State University, David has accumulated an impressive array of skills throughout his career by managing charitable housing rehab projects and building committees.

Joe Corona

Labor Foreman

Joe Corona has over 30 years of construction experience, having completed work as a laborer, foreman, carpenter, and journeyman. He has vast experience completing retail, hospital, and commercial projects, giving him an excellent working knowledge of the construction process. At Helios, Joe exceeds at scheduling, safety, and subcontractor coordination. 

Joe is 30-hour OSHA, NFPA Firestopping, Scaffold, and Corian fabrication/installation certified.
