Audiotree is a Chicago-based media company and artist discovery platform dedicated to promoting and elevating up-and-coming bands. They own and operate several iconic Chicago music venues, including Schubas Tavern.

Helios Construction Services teamed up with Gensler Chicago and Audiotree to build a new, two-story restaurant and event venue addition to iconic Schuba’s Tavern in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. Tied House replaced the former Harmony Grill location and underutilized parking lot to offer a dining and entertainment destination in the Southport Corridor. Inspired by Schuba’s history as a Schlitz tied house, the project design cherishes the past and embraces the future by fusing traditional tavern materials and brick patterning with clean, modern elements. Helios utilized 3D laser scanning and building information modeling (BIM) tools to coordinate construction, ensuring the project met the complete design intent. A full basement coupled with a space-constrained site required extensive coordination amongst the project team, City of Chicago, and area residents.

This project was awarded the AIA Chicago’s Interior Architecture Award Citation of Merit for 2019.
